Why put the millionth Hummus Recipe online? Couldn’t you come up with something more creative? Well, for my first blog post I wanted to start with something that I think I know how to do. Probably Hummus is the thing I’ve cost most in my life at a variety of events. Hummus is simple to make, nourishing, healthy and delicious. After making your own Hummus you will never reach for supermarket Hummus again. No more big introductory words, here’s the recipe.

Ingredients (gives approx 380g of Hummus)

  • a can of cooked chickpeas (drained weight 240g, keep the water) sesame paste/Tahini ~ about 100g (you can also easily do your own with a good blender, it’s just ground sesame anyway)
  • juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of Cumin
  • some salt, chili and paprika spice
  • neutral oil
  • parsley for garnishing (optional)

Preparation

Blend, blend and blend. In my opinion it tastes best when the hummus is super creamy. Add some chickpea water and oil until the desired creaminess is reached.

Variations

  • you can easily vary the proportions, e.g for tahini, cumin, lemon juice, garlic …
  • add a preecooked beetroot
  • add some sundried tomatoes
  • Also blend some parsley, besides giving the Hummus a slightly greenish appearance it also alters the taste significantly.
